Testimonial - F20 M135i - Quaife LSD - Mr Oleksy
Hi James,
If you could let me know Kevin did the transfer last Saturday that would be great. With holiday season coming up expenses are higher in december compared to other months :)
Find below my review about the unit:
First some background about my ride. It's a modified F20 M135i. It has a stage2 Pure Turbo, upgraded Fuel-IT fuel system, wagner decat + comp evo2 intercooler and the tune is handled via BMS JB4. As for suspension I am running H&R springs with lightweight Breyton GTS-R 18 inch wheels. On the dyno the car makes 540 hp and can get to 760nm. However torque was downtuned to 700nm with the ZF 8 speed gearbox in mind. The car is downright fast and brutal up top. It needs a bit more spool-up time compared to stock turbo (which actually helps launching) but as soon as it hits 3800-4000 rpm it is a rocket till 7000 rpm. I have plenty of straight line action available on my youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgncRm99OFDPTruDZiZ01kQ
I was in touch with James already over a year ago since I read so many things about the car would be so much better with a proper LSD fitted. However this mod comes with a bigger bill and it's very hard to grasp what it will do for you and your car unless you can test it in advance and experience it. Hence I held out with the buy until 2 months ago. I had some free budget and I figured let's try that Quaife LSD and see what it does for me. So I got back in touch with James picking up the mail thread from 2014 :) I figured James would be like oh no there he is again but he was very professional in his answers and after a few mail exchanges I bit the bullet and ordered the Quaife LSD unit. James told me up front it would be 4 weeks and in between those 4 weeks he got in touch a few times saying it would still be on schedule. Once arrived I had it installed few days later and now it was time to test the unit. Now I have the unit for 4 weeks on my car. I have driven it in the dry, wet and even did a drift course 10 days ago.
All I can say is: WOW!!!! The Quaife LSD DOES change the car. Previously I thought I was accelerating fast out of corners. Until now :-) Previously the car always fell a bit on it's face when the rear stepped out (E-LSD braking I guess) and this meant power was gone for a split second taking some part of the fun away. Now no more!!! When it steps out it does so in a very controllable way. It feels so natural to just counter steer, keep the pedal down and shoot away out of the corner with some sideways action. In the rain you also have plenty more grip compared to before. And sideways action is so much more fun. In the dry you have so much more mechanical grip before it breaks out and if it does break out its very controllable and natural. I had to learn to keep the pedal down when it happens. It's so much more enjoyable now.
Also straight line performance has increased. My 100-200 went down a few tenths. I can't wait till next season when the temps go up to try it out on the dragstrip.
The drift course was very nice too. I may do a day or 2-3 next season again. It's so much more fun. You can make donuts forever :) Or drift a whole course with corners.
The only thing I regret about the Quaife LSD is that I did not decide to buy it last year when I first got in touch with James. Really if you are in doubt if you should get it, then just get it. It's worth every penny that it costs!
Kind regards,
