Testimonial - E92 335i - B3 Suspension Springs - Mr McCluskie
Date: 05/08/2010
Hi Kevin and Pinder
As promised to Pinder when I collected my car, I am giving some feedback on the new springs Birds fitted to my E92 335i.
Overall I am very pleased with this modification. The ride is much better - to the extent I think I am driving a bit faster over our less than perfect roads! The slight drop in ride height is also nice and the car looks spot on now.
The biggest surprise for me is the handling. With softer springs I was expecting a slight deterioration, but was prepared to accept that as a quid pro quo for the better ride. Not so! The handling has, if anything, improved - even without addition of the bigger anti -roll bars. Indeed, I have been able to slightly reduce tyre pressure (by 1 psi all round) to improve ride still further. Running 36psi front and 38psi rear now.
The poor ride (even with non-runflats) was spoiling the car for me despite the other mods Birds have done on it, i.e. Dinan Stage 1 and Quaife LSD. In fact I was starting to think I wouldn't be keeping the car for too long. But the suspension mod has transformed things and the car is now definitely a 'keeper' for me and I look forward to bringing it in to Birds for servicing etc. over the next few years.
A couple of things:
(1) I would be interested to know what tyre pressures you run on the Birds E92.
(2) Would it be possible to post me a couple of the small Birds badges? I messed up sticking on the one I took, and it's not staying on very well. (All good advertising for Birds!)
Best regards.
