It'll take an incredibly competent car to knock the E39 5 series off its pedestal. Crowned by most as the the best BMW ever built, BMW created a benchmark that will be almost impossible to beat.

But maybe this car can do it. If you ever manage to experience the thrust  of a 550i, you will know where we got this idea. It seems like a large car, until you drive it. And irritating and unwanted gagetry aside, this is a very accomplished chassis.

It's also very easy to tune, with engine management and a Quaife ATB limited-slip differential, this car becomes a missile on open roads, but a comfortable nad surprisingly economical cruiser around town.
