Production 2009-present.
Where did BMW go wrong with this chassis! The press have surmised that BMW were irritated about the success of the Mercedes SLK, and have tried to copy the soft responses that Mercedes customers require. The result is a sports roadster that has had the sportiness surgically removed.
With the option of the awesome 3.0l biturbo engine, lifted straight form the early 335i, it clearly isn't lacking in power, nor the potential for much more. But the chassis is truly unrewarding. Hobbled by the dreadful run-on-flat tyres that infest the BMW range, it's difficult to see how BMW could have given this car a worse start.
Well that's good news for us! Hartge have provided most of the equipment to turn the roadster into a refined and capable sports car. What's more, it doesn't finish there. Our own demonstrator will continue to come under the knife until we have the car behaving on UK roads the way it should.
